Dozens of young people gather to support Labrador West Food Bank

Roughly 120 children learned what it means to support their community Wednesday, Feb. 26 with a food drive.

Youth ages 3-11 brought items ranging from cereal to ketchup to juice boxes for the Labrador West Food Bank as they attended Glad Tidings Pentecostal church’s Fun Factor program, a weekly event for children in Labrador West.

Children’s Pastor Lisa Meade said the charitable giving was consistent with the message the program offers.

“It teaches the kids the value of giving and giving is important, and by giving we’re helping other people,” Pastor Meade explained.

Kids also wore their pink t-shirts for the school-initiated anti-bullying campaign as part of the International Stand Up to Bullying Day, which overlapped into Fun Factor.

Meade said the program deals a lot with lessons on how to treat others and respect.

“It’s important because it teaches our kids morals, that there is a God that loves them. This world can be pretty cruel to kids sometimes and they come from all different backgrounds and experiences. It teaches them that they’re loved and accepted and amazing.”

Fun Factor is held Wednesday evenings at 6:30 p.m.
