Baccalieu Trail SPCA fundraiser a success
Chocolate, red velvet, vanilla, carrot, Oreo and many other flavours of moist, icing covered cupcakes can be a delicious treat, especially when you have 2,000 to choose from.

This tray of cupcakes was one of the last batches donated to the Baccalieu Trail SPCA for it's Cupcake Day fundraiser at the Trinity Conception Square mall in Carbonear on Feb. 23.
Monday, Feb. 23 was National Cupcake Day in Canada, and for the second-straight year, Baccalieu Trail SPCA held a cupcake fundraiser.
This year 2,000 cupcakes were donated to the organization to raise money for an animal shelter. Some $3,000 was raised through cupcake sales and donations.
“(It was) a huge success,” spokeswoman Laura Lee Hiscock told The Compass.
Volunteers manned the tables at the Trinity Conception Square Mall in Carbonear and Beaver Plaza in Bay Roberts. Cupcakes were also sold at the Baccalieu Trail Animal Hospital in both Bay Roberts and Carbonear.
The organization has been attempting to find a physical location for several years. Hiscock confirms they are closer to that reality with the generous support the organization has received.
“We are currently trying to secure a piece of property within the Baccalieu Trail area, and if we are successful, we will then start to plan details of our physical shelter,” Hiscock said. “We are a ways away yet, but if this property goes through, we will be one step closer to our goal.”
Although the fundraiser was a success, Hiscock says the BTSPCA is in a tough position when it comes to foster homes.
“We are in desperate need of foster homes for cats and dogs in the area,” she said, adding that supplies and vet care will be covered for all foster pets.
