Newfoundland and Labrador’s newest MHA will officially be sworn in tomorrow (Wed. Dec. 11).
Liberal Sam Slade, the new member for Carbonear-Harbour Grace, will arrive in the Cochrane Room at Government House at 10:30 a.m. with the ceremony to begin at 11 a.m.
“I’m humbled to be representing the people of such a wonderful district, and the people of the province in general,” Slade said in a news release. “I’m looking forward to bringing their issues to the House of Assembly and working with them to make the district a better place to live.”
Slade was elected by the voters of the district on Nov. 26 in a byelection that saw him defeat Progressive Conservative candidate Jack Harrington by more than 450 votes and return the district to the Liberal party after six years PC.
He resigned his former position as mayor of Carbonear Monday, Dec. 2.1
The participants in the 46th annual Cavendish-Whiteway Christmas Parade had an ideal day on Dec. 7.
Aside from a cool breeze, the sun was shinning and hundreds of residents came out to get in the spirit of the season.
There was a variety of floats, including the Snow Queen, Disney's Frozen, Duck Dynasty and, of course, Santa Claus.
The Compass was there to take in all of the Christmas action.
