Andy Jones will bring the character of Uncle Val to life during his one-man show at the Sheila NaGeira Theatre in Carbonear this Sunday, Nov. 18. The performance, entitled An evening with Uncle Val (The Cup o' Tea in the Woods Tour) features an indignant 70 year old fisherman, played by Jones, recently displaced from his outport home and trapped in the big city of St. John's.
Homesick, Uncle Val struggles to figure out what life has left to offer him. Is there anything of use for a senior citizen in the suburbs to do? Is there any mystery or magic left for him to discover? Val's journey offers the audience an evening of encounters with the Beatles and the danger of St. John's winters, or as Val likes to call it the Seniors' Olympics. The play also features Uncle Val's devilish brand of babysitting Dos and Dont's drawn from his experience as live-in babysitter for his daughter's rhyming youngsters, Jimmy and Kimmy. There are births, deaths and even romances as Val struggles to find his place in city life.
The show will hit the road travelling to seven other Arts and Culture Centres across the island between November 10 and 21.
Showtime is 8 p.m.
