Fire destroyed a small dwelling house on Kimberley Place off Valley Road in
Carbonear over the weekend.
The blaze broke out shortly after midnight Saturday, Oct. 31.
When fire fighters from the Carbonear Volunteer Fire Department arrived at
the scene at 12:15 a.m., "they could see the northwest side of the house on
fire with flames shooting 10 to 15 feet above the roof," said Keith Thomas,
a spokesman for the fire department.
"Once it was determined all occupants were out of the house, an exterior
attack began," Thomas told The Compass, adding, "there were no injuries."
The spokesman said live electrical lines knocked down by the fire hampered
fire fighters in their efforts to battle the blaze.
The fire also damaged siding on a neighbour's shed.
Under their mutual aid agreement, Carbonear called their neighbours, the
Harbour Grace Volunteer Fire Brigade to act as standby in the town while
members of the Carbonear Fire Department were busy fighting the blaze.
It took fire fighters about three hours to extinguish the blaze, the cause
of which is being investigated by Trinity Conception District RCMP.
