Eastern School District announced today (May 4) that CEO/director of education Ford Rice willl be leaving the job at the end of June.
Board chairman Milton Peach of Carbonear made the announcement in a news release issued this morning.
“Mr. Rice has submitted his resignation … to accept a position with a school board outside of Newfoundland and Labrador,” said Peach. “I have accepted the resignation of Mr. Rice and thanked him for his contribution to Eastern School District as a senior administrator.”
Rice has served as CEO/director of education since his appointment in April, 2009. He has accepted the position of superintendent of schools for the Strait Regional School Board in Nova Scotia.
Previous to serving as CEO/director, Rice was assistant director of education (programs) as well as assistant director of education (rural education and corporate services) for Eastern School District. He has been involved in the education profession in Newfoundland and Labrador for 31 years.
“I would like to publicly thank Mr. Rice for his exemplary service as CEO/director, along with his unwavering dedication to the students and staff of Eastern School District — the largest school district in our province serving over 40,500 students,” said Peach.
“Mr. Rice, in leading Eastern School District over the past three years, has excelled in his performance and in carrying out the strategic plan of our district as directed by the Board of Trustees. On behalf of the Board of Trustees and employees of Eastern School District, I wish him every success with his new appointment.”
Information on the appointment of a new CEO/director of education for Eastern School District will be made available by the Board of Trustees at a future time, Peach added.
