Today (May 9) is Municipal Awareness Day in Newfoundland and Labrador. It's a special day devoted to acknowledging the dedicated work of hundreds of volunteers who donate their time to municipal government and raising awareness of the work done by mayors, councillors, staff and municipal administrators.
Municipal Awareness Day started more than 15 years ago as an initiative of Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador (MNL), and a vast majority of municipalities throughout the province celebrate the event.
Municipal governments provide many essential services such as clean water, street lighting, garbage collection and even recreational areas for children and families.
MNL is encouraging the people of the province to get involved in the many activities happening in their communities. Visit the open houses or take in the family day activities.
