Two area motorists charged with impaired driving on May 10

Police in the Trinity Conception region nabbed two motorists for alleged impaired driving on May 11, including one driver who's alcohol impairment "shocked" the investigating officer.

Both arrests were made following complaints from the public.

The first incident took place in Old Perlican after the RCMP received a complaint about an erratic driver. Officers quickly responded and later arrested a male driver on a charge of impaired operation of a motor vehicle. Police say the concentration of alcohol in his blood system was twice the legal limit, or 160 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood.

Later on in the evening, officers responded to a single motor vehicle collision in Roaches Line. Police say the driver showed signs of extreme intoxication.

Tests show the man had a concentration of 320 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood, which is four times the legal limit.

"Luckily, the driver was uninjured as a result of the collision and no one else was injured either," RCMP Const. David Marentette stated in a news release.

Marentette expressed appreciation to those who reported the incidents.

"It is because of the public's concern and vigilance that these drivers were apprehended before anyone was injured. As always, all members of the public are encouraged to report impaired drivers by calling their local RCMP detachment," he added.

Thanks! These are people that could care less if they killed you or someone in your family. When are we going to get serious. The RCMP & RNC do their part then the Judges (former Defense Lawyers) give them house arrest (watch tv and play pool tonight).......... Scandanavian Countries = 1 year in jail and 1 year loss of license (let out to work every day - made to work - and your pay check goes to support your family and pay jail expenses) on 1st offense. The drunks are only sorry for getting caught not what damage they do...........repeat offenders that ignor warnings/fines = send them to jail for several years. It is better to pay their keep then have them killing us. Oh Yea a new idea....make them work or don't eat!
