School Sports Newfoundland and Labrador has recognized Beverly Collins, a teacher at Crescent Collegiate in Blaketown, for her contribution to school sports in the Avalon region.

Collins has been heavily involved in sports at the school, coaching girls’ ball hockey for the past several years. This past April, the Crescent girls’ team captured the AAAA provincial championship, to go along with numerous other medals in the past.

The announcement came as a part of the School Sports NL awards banquet, held June 1 at the Capital Hotel in St. John’s.

Other individuals recognized for their contributions to school sports in their regions were: Pat Carroll (O’Donel High, St. John’s Region), Paul Stewart (Clarenville Middle School, Avalon West Region), Marian Barry-Barnes (Christ the King, Burin Peninsula Region), Scott Short (New World Island Academy, Central East Region), Lianne O’Reilly (Botwood Collegiate, Central Region), Adam Matthews (Valmont Academy, Central West Region), Jimmy Strickland (EA Butler School, Western Region), Tony Power (Canon Richards High, Northern Peninsula Region), Ron O’Brien (Southern Labrador Region) and Andrew Rowsell (Mealy Mountain Collegiate, Northern Region).
