Winds are gusting up to 110 km/h in the Wreckhouse and Port Aux Basques areas this morning, according to Environment Canada.
A warning has been issued that potentially hazardous winds are expected or occuring in those areas today.
Meantime, Hurricane Leslie is creeping northward in the Atlantic. The latest tracking information from the Canadian Hurricane Centre states the storm continues to move slowly and computer models indicate it could accelerate toward eastern Canada with a range of track scenarios spanning Nova Scotia and Newfoundland.
The storm is expected to move very slowly and intensify gradually over the next three days. Computer models are predicting Leslie to travel only 250 km over the next two days. In fact, notes the hurricane centre, the Leslie was basically stationary overnight. With such a slow speed of travel and still in its organizing stage, there is much uncertainty in its predicted path and intensity. If Leslie makes landfall in eastern Canada, it would not likely do so until early next week.
