A year after former councillor Michael Fowler tendered his resignation, the Town of Brigus is dealing with the loss of yet another municipal leader.
Coun. Pauline Mercer, who joined council for the first time after the September 2009 election, resigned last month.
The loss of Mercer leaves Brigus with just six councillors.
There are no plans to call for a byelection.
"I guess, she felt it was better to be away from it," said town clerk Wayne Rose.
According to Rose, if a resignation of a councillor falls within 12 months of the next municipal election, it is at the discretion of the council whether it wants to fill the vacant seat.
Councillors in Brigus decided against a second byelection this year, and will finish out this term one short of a full slate, which is still enough for a quorum.
Mercer's departure leaves Brigus town council consisting of Mayor Byron Rodway, Deputy Mayor Ralph Trickett, and councillors Lorne Youden, Faith Roberts-Pike, Greg Hiscock and Roy Clarke.
When contacted by The Compass, Mercer declined to comment on her resignation.
