The Port Saunders RCMP is investigating the theft of a large amount of Bell telephone wire that occurred on Route 430-28, the main road between Port Saunders and the Port aux Choix area.

The theft occurred between 1 a.m. and 7 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 7.

Police say the incident is concerning to police as the culprit(s) removed the wire from an active lines system and damaged a nearby pole.

Police are asking for anyone with information to contact the Port Saunders RCMP detachment at 861-3555 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477)

The RCMP would also like to remind people that tampering with telephone and utility poles/wires is extremely dangerous and can result in serious injury or death.
