On Thursday December 27th, 2012 Hopedale RCMP were called to the Hopedale Harbour where a 63 year old male had gone through the ice while driving on Snowmobile. The incident was witnessed by several persons which resulted in numerous persons responding to the area to provide assistance immediately. Persons responding were able to remove the male from the water, but the male was unresponsive when removed. CPR was initiated immediately and he was transported to the Local Clinic, but unfortunately the male was unable to be revived. The medical examiner is involved and an Autopsy has been ordered.

The Harbour is major travel route for local residents and only recently began being used.
