The first baby delivered at Carbonear General Hospital in 2013 arrived at 5:37 a.m. on Jan. 1.
Khloe Annabelle Broaders is the daughter of Bernard Broaders of Bay de Verde and Holly Tucker of Burnt Point. Her grandparents are Harvey and Sandra Tucker and Ambrose and Daphne Broaders.
Khloe tipped the scales at eight pounds, 10 ounces (3.67 kilograms) at birth, and measured 19.6 inches (50 centimetres) in length.
The young family resides in Victoria, and welcomed their new addition to their home on Jan. 3.
Though she was born only hours after the calendar turned to 2013, Khloe was not the province’s first arrival for this year. That distinction goes to a couple from Harbour Main, whose baby was born about an hour earlier in an ambulance while en route to hospital in St. John’s.
Officials with Eastern Health say there were 101 live births at Carbonear General in 2012. That's well down from the 250-plus birhs that were common at the hospital in the middle part of the last decade.
