The Trinity Conception District RCMP is confirming that officers are investigating a possible case of animal neglect after responding to a complaint in Bay Roberts today (Jan. 28).

Officers who visited the residence say two dogs were found outside. One was deceased and the second was “in distress.”

Police believe exposure to the cold weather conditions may have played a role.

The live dog was taken to a local veterinarian to be examined.

According to a news release, police are considering charges under the new Animal Health and Protection Act.

Meanwhile, police are urging members of the public to report cases of animal abuse, and note that the RCMP works in partnership with the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA).

Those who can no longer care for an animal due to financial restraints, medical problems, or other concerns are encouraged to contact the SPCA.
