A spokesman for the Trinity Conception District RCMP says an increased emphasis on interrupting illegal drug activity in the region is “making a dent.”

Cpl. Sean Tipple said the latest search and seizure at a private home in Carbonear during the early morning hours of Jan. 29 is further evidence the effort is “paying off.”

Officers executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant on a residence on Patrict Street, and seized a small quantity of cannabis marijuana, weigh scales, a cellphone and related drug paraphernalia.

A 22-year-old Carbonear man is facing a charge of possession of cannabis marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.

He was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in provincial court on April 16.

Tipple encouraged community members to play a role by providing information to the police.

He acknowledged that the level of illegal drug activity in the region is on the rise.
