Avalon East District RCMP have charged two Paradise residents in connection with break-ins in the Mahers area.
Police say a complaint was received last Friday around 2:16 a.m. from a resident and cabin owner of suspicious persons in the Mahers area, which led to the arrest of a 24-year-old man and his 22-year-old sister for possession of break and entry tools. Additional charges laid include three counts each of break and entry as well as charges of possession of property obtained by crime.
Police say the vehicle they were operating, a 2004 Ford Escape, was also seized under the Highway Traffic Act and the female driver charged with operating a vehicle without a valid drivers licence.
Both were released from police custody on undertakings to appear in court on April 23.
With a recent rise in the number of break and entries being reported, the RCMP say they would like to thank the complainant in this matter and are asking cabin owners and residents in cabin areas throughout the region to continue to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to police for further investigation and followup.
Information on any type of criminal activity can be reported to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police at 1(800)-709-RCMP(7267) or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222 TIPS(8477).
