Three reports released today support Muskrat Falls: Kennedy

The provincial government released three reports today it says addresses the issues surrounding suggested alternatives to Muskrat Falls power and helps establish the mega project as the best option to meet future power demand needs in the province.

The reports also help support the claim that now is the right time to develop the resource.

“It is not feasible to defer Muskrat Falls under the assumption that the province will have cheap or free power in 2041,” Natural Resources Minister Jerome Kennedy said today in a news release.

“Waiting for available Upper Churchill power in 2041 is not a practical, economical, or sensible alternative to Muskrat Falls.”

The papers, Upper Churchill: Can we wait until 2041?, Gull Island: Why not develop Gull Island first?, and Legal Options: S92A, Good Faith and Regulatory Proceedings in Quebec were released today by Kennedy’s department.

“Reports released today provide clear, concise information which refute the suggestion that the province has not explored all options with respect to Quebec and the Upper Churchill,” Kennedy said. “Our research and studies support the position that Muskrat Falls is the best option to address demand requirements for our province.”

first of all the minister shouldn't point fingers. he may have 3 reports in favour of muskrat falls, but those reports are not worth the paper they were written on, and besides they are a big waste of tax dollars. let the government go to the people, either in a referendum or a general election.

If NFLD thinks that the UPPER Churchill power is there for NFLD to use after 2041 they should think again, Fore without building the Muskrat Falls with its own transmission line to the island then under water to the eastern mainland of Canada with a transmission line built heavy enough to also carry the power from the upper Churchill after 2041, Then QUEBEC not NFLD will still have the last say on Upper Churchill power, If NFLD wants to send power over the Quebec power grid it will be on their terms not NFLDS

Where are the naysayer experts? Where are the naysayer reviews? Where are the naysayer reports? How much more money does government have to spend to appese the know nothing naysayers? How many more reports does government have to comission? This is becoming a cottage industry for those involved in electrical generation. You would think that with the 2041 group, and all the other naysayer groups they could come up with someone somewhere with a shred of credibility to offer expertise on the subject....yet they have come up with nothing...nada...zip...zero....What does that tell you?The government has gone to extreams to provide the information the naysayers have screamed for...but to know avail. There is nothing that will satisfy them. Why? It is because they could care less about muskrat falls....it has nothing to do with the merits of the project...it is all about sour grapes...jealousy...idiocy. You have the poor ol' liberals wallowing around at 15% in the polls and a million dollars in debt....the last thing...the very last thing they need is for government to succeed in developing a project...they will do anything they can to thwart government...and to in turn hurt the people of NL. They don't care about this project...all they care about is their own comfy pension, and getting reelected. Sad pathetic, angry people....

Referendum is a necessity because a manipulated debate or a farcical debate and house vote with such a huge majority just won't make it. Do the right thing government, slow it down and get the independent unbiased review this needs. We know we have not been able to engage in sucessful negotiation with Quebec, but lets not shoot our feet off to go around them yet, why not give it another try outside of the courts. Its just too tough to negotiate with someone you have continuously before the courts. Quebec might just go for the same gieveaway we have offered Nova Scotia, you never know if you don't talk to them.

I am glad the Muskrat Falls naysayers didn't win the day when we were in the early stages of Long Harbour, Bull Arm, Voisey's Bay, or any of the other mega projects that are pouring dollars into our economy. Had they been heeded then, we would still be a province going cap-in-hand for EI payments and whatever else we could get our hands on from the mainland. This thing is going ahead.....no doubt about that. It's a good deal for our province, it's a good deal for our young people coming out of schools and looking for employment, it's a good deal for our tradesmen, and it's about time we had a government who had a little bit of push-ahead for this province. Danny Williams started it, and now Dunderdale will finish it and get this rolling. The naysayers have no vision for the possible, in my opinion.

Whomever pays for the report, owns the report. And, the owner of the report can manipulate the contents to deliver the desired findings and outcome to support government's position. That Secret Society known as The Con Party of NL, will do anything to circumvent democracy and push its agenda against the will of taxpayers. If the Tories were that confident that their numbers on Muskrat Falls are right and that the project is in the best interests of NL, then open it up for discussion and debate to experts and have goverment's position proven and have the project proceed on its merits. If it fails scrutiny, then back to the drawing board or scrap the project. Oh, and Minister...in your press releases, please identify who is being paid so handsomely to do this research and reporting, and, how much it's costing taxpayers to put this Tory spin out. Also, please advise what connection these firms have to the Con Party, and how they were contracted? was it through the public tendering process, or unsolicted by Tory supporters? Or, simply commissioned by government to Tory friendly firms? PLEASE be accountable, open and transparent.

Enough reports cannot be commisioned to make this project economically viable.the excess cost is ablout the $ 4 billion being spent to go around Quebec.Free energy on 2041 can't compete with a $7.4 +++ billion boondoggle. How much wool would need in your eyes to believe that one?
