Nominations are being accepted until March 8 for the province’s 2013 Seniors of Distinction Awards which recognize the contributions, achievements and diversity of seniors throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.
“Our government is committed to developing an age-friendly province,” said Susan Sullivan, minister of health and community services and minister responsible for aging and seniors. “As such, it is important to promote the value and tremendous worth of seniors. The Seniors of Distinction Awards are an opportunity to acknowledge older people and to celebrate their accomplishments.”
To be eligible for the award, a nominee must be 50 years of age or older and be a current or past resident of Newfoundland and Labrador. Seniors will be considered for both voluntary and paid work and nominations from last year will be reviewed again this year at the request of the nominator. Posthumous awards may also be given. Up to five Newfoundland and Labrador seniors will be recognized this year.
