Police say roads were extremely slippery

Salmonier Nature Park

A 54-year-old man from Conception Bay South was pronounced dead on the scene of an accident earlier today on Route 90 near Salmonier Nature Park.

The only other occupant, an adult male, was transported to a medical facility where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries and later released.

The RCMP Holyrood Detachment and Traffic Services East members responded to the crash. The incident involved a single vehicle losing control and leaving the roadway.

Road conditions were extremely poor at the time and police say the investigation has determined that neither speed, alcohol nor drugs were a factor in the collision.

The name of the deceased is not being released at this time.

Earlier story

A serious motor vehicle accident reduced traffic to one lane on the Salmonier Line Saturday.

RCMP, firefighters and paramedics were at the scene of the accident near Salmonier Nature Park as of 7:30 a.m. Police reported that roads were slippery in the area. One vehicle was removed from the scene.

No disrespect to the deceased man, But the road was snow covered and slippery, how can the RCMP say speed was not a factor, if he was driving 10 km/h he could not have sustained a fatal injury. Speed was absolutely a factor
