According to an environmental assessment bulletin released by the provincial government, a component study submitted by Nalcor Energy regarding the Labrador-Island Transmission Link is deemed acceptable.

“Following public, Aboriginal and governmental review, the Socioeconomic: Aboriginal Communities and Land Use Component Study is acceptable,” the bulletin states.

The component study was submitted on Aug. 16, 2011, with additional information submitted on Aug. 8, 2012.

Meantime, government is reviewing a proposal by Nalcor for construction of a Muskrat Falls south side access road extension.

“The proponent proposes to construct a 5.5 kilometre extension to the south side access road to the Muskrat Falls hydroelectric generating facility work site,” the bulletin reads.

“The proposed access road will intersect the Trans Labrador Highway approximately two kilometres south of Blackrock Bridge on the Churchill River. The road will be used for permanent access to the hydroelectric generating facility.”

Construction of the road is scheduled to commence in mid-April and will take approximately six weeks to complete.

The undertaking was registered on Feb. 19, 2013.

The deadline for public comments is April 3 and the minister’s decision is due by April 5.

Don't worry the government will find money on the backs of average workers to pay for this. They continue to pour hundreds of millions of dollars into Nalcor while most of us suffer from the cuts they will inflict on average workers and our public services.

Nalcor, Nalcor, Nalcor I'm so sick of hearing nalcor and ed martin, spending our money on whatever they want and here we are with the poorest infrastructure a Province could have. It's time for some of these big companies to start putting money into our cities to offset the damage they are doing to our roads, water, and air. We should change our name to, The Province of Nalcor.
