MV Beaumont Hamel

The MV Beaumont Hamel is back on the Bell Island ferry run for the first time in months after the MV Captain Earl W. Winsor returned to Fogo on Monday.

The Fogo ferry service was using the Beaumont Hamel for two weeks while an underwater survey and inspection was conducted on the Captain Earl W. Winsor in St. John’s.

During that time, an electrical issue on the Beaumont Hamel forced the Department of Transportation and Works to arrange fixed wing aircraft and helicopter service to people traveling to Fogo Island and Change Islands.

According to a statement from the department, the MV Sound of Islay will now come out of service for its annual Transport Canada refit. The swing vessel most recently served as the second ferry for the run from Portugal Cove to Bell Island.

The Captain Earl W. Winsor is still due to undergo its annual refit at some point in the fall, according to previous information provided by the department.
