New website, Twitter account launched
The Newfoundland and Labrador English School District, the new district for English language students in the province, is well underway with preparations for September including launching a new website and Twitter account.
“This is an exciting time for education in Newfoundland and Labrador and our team is looking forward to the new school year,” said Darrin Pike, CEO/director of education (designate).
“Student achievement is our focus and each new school year provides exciting opportunities and experiences which we look forward to. Preparation has been ongoing for some time and I am pleased today that we have launched our new website and Twitter account which are important resources for our school communities and are tools to help us stay engaged with those communities.”
The website for the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District contains important information for parents/guardians such as school and district contacts and school opening times and can be viewed at www.nlesd.ca.
Work continues on the site and further information will be added in the coming weeks and throughout the school year.
The district’s Twitter account also went live today and will provide important information for school communities about school activities and the achievements of the province’s students. The Twitter handle for the new district is @NLESDCA.
“I encourage everyone involved with our schools to review our website for the latest information on schools, especially school opening times for September, and to follow our Twitter account for a variety of information which will keep them up-to-date on the activities occurring within the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District,” said Pike.
“Both of these mediums are intended to be dynamic and informative and we appreciate feedback as they grow with our new district.”
The Newfoundland and Labrador English School District comes into effect on Sept. 1, and includes 259 schools, approximately 67,000 students and over 9,000 employees.
