All six current members returning
Residents of South River will not have to go to the polls to elect its next council on Sept. 24.
All members of the current council are returning for another four years in office.
Only six residents put their name forward for the next round of municipal elections meaning the council has been acclaimed.
This includes current Mayor Arthur Petten, Deputy Mayor Scott Rose, along with councillors Joyce Petten, Beverley Wells, Darrell Percy and David McLean.
Not returning to her seat at the council table is Pat Curran. Curran resigned from her post as councillor earlier this year, leaving South River with only six.
While the same six council members are returning for another term, their positions are not set.
The new mayor and deputy mayor will be voted on at a future council meeting.
Councils, depending on the size of the town, normally sit with seven around the table.
However with only six people seeking nomination, South River must look to fill the last seat through a by-election.
A date for that has not yet been set.
