Wilford Templeman (left) is escorted into Harbour Grace provincial court Wednesday by a member of the RCMP.
A 30-year-old Harbour Grace man has been in police custody since Tuesday (Sept. 17) after allegedly assaulting his common-law girlfriend at their residence and detaining her at a residence in Bonavista.
Wilford Templeman made a court appearance yesterday at Harbour Grace provincial court. He is being charged with assault, forcible confinement and failure to comply with an undertaking from previous charges by the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary.
The girlfriend alleges Templeman assaulted her in their home on Monday night before forcing her to drive him to Bonavista the next morning.
At around 6:30 p.m. the girlfriend was able to make a phone call to family members, who told her to contact the RCMP.
Officers from the Bonavista detachment arrested Templeman at the resident without incident.
The Crown prosecutor requested he be held until a bail hearing could take place, which was agreed upon by legal aid lawyer Kevin Baker and Judge Jacqueline Brazil.
Judge Brazil scheduled the hearing for 1:30 p.m. today in Placentia.
