CORNER BROOK The residence wings and chalets at Grenfell Campus, Memorial University are getting names.
The names for these areas of the campus will be unveiled during a ceremony scheduled for the atrium of the university’s Fine Arts Building at 3:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon.
According to a media advisory about the ceremony, the Arts and Science Building’s residence wings will be named for two people who figure prominently in western Newfoundland's cultural heritage. The chalets will be named for features in Newfoundland and Labrador's geographical landscape.
According to a Facebook group dedicated to the memory of the late Al Pittman, his namesake will be on one of the buildings. The renowned Corner Brook author was an English professor at Grenfell.
Gary Kachanoski, president of Memorial University, will deliver remarks on behalf of the university and family members of the persons being honoured will be in attendance.
