A dog that went missing after its owners were slain in a double murder/suicide last week in Conception Bay South was located and returned to family of the victims today.
The dog, Hailey, part rottweiler and part German Shepherd, was in the vehicle when the shooting occurred and then fled the car in fear. Volunteers searched the area over the last week as news of the dog’s plight hit Facebook and Twitter.
The dog, which was checked over by a local veterinarian clinic, is fine, said RNC spokeswoman Const. Talia Murphy.
The dog was reported found this morning with another person who was not the person who originally located the dog. Police showed up to the second person’s home to retrieve the dog and were refused entry. Later the person gave the dog to the family when they turned up.
Brian Dawe killed his former girlfriend, Julianne Hibbs, and Vince Dillon in Manuels Oct. 15. Dawe was found dead in a vehicle in the Anglican cemetery on Kenmount Road the next morning.
He was wearing body armour, and had a 9mm handgun, a AK-47 semi-automatic assault rifle and hundreds of rounds of ammunitions in clips.
