A man believed to be from Makinsons has been arrested in relation to a series of post office break and enters on Oct. 7.
John Giles, 37, has been charged with four break-ins along Route 80 in the Trinity Conception region.
He was arrested on Oct. 15.
Sometime between the evening of Oct. 6 and the morning of Oct. 7, Giles is accused of breaking into post offices in Winterton, Heart’s Content, Green’s Harbour and New Harbour.
Police have also linked him to a similar break-in at a post office in Garden’s Cove on Sept. 17.
Cpl. Richard Marshall, with the Trinity Conception RCMP, said the suspect was linked to the crimes after stolen cheques were deposited at financial institutions in the region.
The arrest was made with the co-operation of Whitbourne RCMP, Trinity Conception RCMP and Clarenville RCMP.
Marshall said having three detachments involved made the arrest “trickier.”
“It was a little bit difficult, but with the help of the other detachments, it was able to be done quickly,” he said.
Gale was in provincial court in Harbour Grace on Oct. 24 for his first appearance.
He will have a bail hearing at 10 a.m. on Friday (Oct. 25).
