Numbers change, names stay same in Gander judicial recount
Third time lucky, that's just how Brian Dove must feel this evening.
Mr. Dove received the official word late this afternoon he will fill the sixth-and-final council seat with the Town of Gander.
It was a long wait for Mr. Dove who thought he had won the seat in the Sept. 24 municipal election when he finished in sixth place with 1,180 votes, and was followed by Reg Batson at 1,176 and Stephanie Winsor at 1,170.
Mr. Batson requested a recount, and when these totals came in Mr. Dove held on to his 1,180 votes, but Ms. Winsor (1,174) overtook Mr. Batson (1,170).
This prompted Ms. Winsor to make an application for a judicial recount, which took place Oct. 23-24.
In the end, Mr. Dove finally got his council seat with 1,179 votes, while Ms. Winsor closed the gap with 1,177, followed by Mr. Batson at 1,172.
Mr. Dove will now join Mayor Claude Elliott, Mayor Deputy Mayor Cyril Abbott, and councillors Rob Anstey, Gerry Parrott, Sarah McBreairty, and Wayne Lorenzen On Gander's town council.
