A pair of supermarkets in Conception Bay North have been recognized with national awards.
Powell’s Supermarkets in Bay Roberts and Harbour Grace were each given awards from the Canadian Federation of Independent Grocers (CFIG) awards program.
Both received the awards at the 51st Canadian Independent Grocery of the Year awards ceremony on Oct. 1 in Toronto.
In Bay Roberts, employees David J. Powell, Adam Powell, John Mercer and Craig Oates were each awarded the national platinum award after earning the award of merit for 10 consecutive years.
The store was also recognized with the regional award for the medium surface category in Atlantic Canada.
Later in the evening, it was announced that David J. Powell, Adam Powell, Craig Oates and Betty Lundrigan of Powell’s in Harbour Grace were awarded the national bronze award in the small surface category of the top independent grocer of the year section.
Harbour Grace also received a regional award in the small surface category.
“The Powell Group understands its customers and how to meet their needs,” said Thomas Barlow, president and chief executive officer of CFIG. “We are very pleased that they have been recognized for their outstanding contribution to their community.”
