Police tell public to slow down
The Whitbourne detachment of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police would like to remind motorists to slow down and obey the posted speed limit in construction zones.
Currently, grind and patch work is being conducted on the Trans-Canada Highway in the westbound lane from Bellevue to where the new Irving is being constructed in Whitbourne. This work will continue to Port Blandford and then back to Whitbourne again on the eastbound side of the highway and is anticipated it will take a total of three weeks.
The posted speed limit in this construction zone is 50 kilometres an hour. Several motorists have already been ticketed for exceeding the speed limit in this area and traffic enforcement will continue until the work is completed. In addition, fines are doubled when exceeding the posted speed limit in construction zones.
