Missing person search now a body recovery operation, RCMP say

The search for a missing boater in the Stock Cove, Trinity Bay, area has turned into an underwater body recovery operation, the RCMP advised today.


The underwater search is being conducted using a camera from Bay Roberts Search and Rescue.

On Wednesday, Clarenville RCMP co-ordinated and conducted the ground search of the Stock Cove area where the boat was found, as well as the missing boater's cabin area. A thorough grid search of the area was conducted by air services as well as a thorough ground search of both shorelines and the boater's cabin. The searches failed to find the missing person.

The ground search was conducted the Ground Search and Rescue Team from Clarenville and was assisted with air support (helicopter) from Fire and Emergency Services Newfoundland and Labrador. In addition, a Coast Guard Cormorant helicopter assisted as were in the area conducting training.

The name of the boater is not being released at the request of the family.
