Cupids councillor Doug Furey is shown here at a joint council meeting in Brigus earlier this year. Furey has been named the new chairman of the CBN joint council.
At the council's annual general meeting on Oct. 30 in Clarke's Beach, Cupids councillor Doug Furey was named the chairman of the executive.
He will be following in the footsteps of Carbonear Deputy Mayor George Butt, who served as chairman.
Victoria councillor Frank Antle was named the vice-chairman, while new Clarke's Beach councillor Crystal Brett was named treasurer.
Clarke's Beach town clerk Joan Wilcox will serve as secretary for the joint council.
The CBN joint council takes in town councils from Brigus to Victoria. The council is designed to tackle issues at the regional level.
Past issues on the agenda have been waste collection, water issues, increased police presence and luring additional medical professionals to the region.
The council also looked at addressing the regionalization of essential services. Things such as fire protection and first responders have been on the agenda in recent months. Often, professionals in these fields would address attending members at meetings.
The group meets on the last Thursday of every month and locations are rotated around to the various municipal buildings in the region.
