The RNC has charged two men in relation to a robbery on St. Clare Avenue in St. John’s about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Royal Newfoundland Constabulary media relations officer Nadia Churchill speaks with reporters at RNC headquarters in St. John's.

Two male suspects, ages 21 and 26, are accused of entering Walsh’s Convenience Store with their faces concealed and stealing a significant quantity of cigarettes.

The RNC says the store clerk and a customer sustained minor injuries during the robbery. RNC media relations officer Const. Nadia Churchill said the victims were not taken to hospital.

A quick response by RNC officers resulted in the suspects being located a short time later. One male was in possession of bear spray at the time of arrest. Churchill confirmed to media that bear spray was not used during the robbery itself.

The 26-year-old has been charged with robbery and disguise with intent. The 21-year-old was charged with robbery, disguise with intent and possession of a prohibited weapon.

Both accused were arrested without incident and held to appear in provincial court.

Anyone who may have any information in relation to this crime is asked to contact the RNC at 729-8000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). You can provide information anonymously on the NL Crime Stoppers website at www.nlcrimestoppers.com.
