An organization in the Town of Whiteway, Trinity Bay has been awarded with a 2013 community arts program grant from the Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council.

The Whiteway Spring Hare Committee was the recipient of a $4,000 Community Arts Program grant to support the 2014 Spring Hare event that takes place annually in the community.

Guest speakers with a background in the arts, theatre performances, storytellers and visual arts are some of the highlights that the event offers each year. There is also an art exhibition of local artists.

In 2014, the organization will be offering two workshops — one in painting and one in photography — led by professional artists.

$75,000 was dispersed through 19 grants to not-for-profit, community-based organizations and groups to cover costs related to workshops, productions, presentations and adjudicator fees.

Whiteway is the only recipient on the Avalon Peninsula, outside the Greater St. John’s Area.
