The snow and rain has stopped for now but not the wind.

Environment Canada issued a wind warning for the Burin Peninsula today with westerly winds gusting between 100 and 130 km/h this morning.

While the extreme wind speeds are not unheard of for Newfoundland, they are potentially damaging. Residents are advised to take appropriate precautions if heading outside.

All schools on the Burin Peninsula are closed this morning, some for the whole day, others with further announcements coming shortly.

Environment Canada is calling for flurries or local snow squalls this evening with blowing snow over exposed areas. The wind should drop off to between 40 to 60 km/h.

For tomorrow, flurries will end in the morning with blowing snow again over exposed areas.
