Minor damage to local business

Fire crews quickly knocked down this blaze on Whitmore Street in Grand Falls-Windsor on Thursday afternoon.

Grand Falls-Windsor Fire Rescue and local RCMP detachment kicked off 2014 with a fire call this afternoon.

Constable Rory Jeddore told the Advertiser they received a call from a small business owner about a fire at his business on Whitmore Street in Grand Falls-Windsor at around 2 p.m. Jeddore said fire crews were able to knock down the blaze quickly; no one was injured.

According to Jeddore, the fire was likely electrical in nature and limited to the inside of the building. He said while there some damage, it was minor and confined to a small section in the rear of the building. There was no damage to the building’s exterior.

Jeddore said while the fire doesn’t appear to be suspicious in nature, RCMP members are holding the scene while the fire examiner investigates to determine the exact cause of the blaze.
