Heart's Content family homeless following fire

Power outages are the least of a Heart's Content family's concerns, following an overnight fire that destroyed its home in the Trinity Bay community.

According to the Canadian Red Cross, the fire on Rockwood's Hill was first reported at approximately 2 a.m. Sunday. Eight members of an extended family were staying at the home when the fire happen. Their were no reported injuries, but the occupants of the home were forced to leave with only the clothes they were wearing.

The Red Cross said those people — a man in his 70s, his son and daughter-in-law and their five children — are currently staying with family and friends in Heart's Content.

Supplies have been provided to the family, including clothing, food, bedding, personal care kits and other items.

The cause of the fire was unknown as of Sunday afternoon, according to the Red Cross.
