Officials with Eastern Health have confirmed the leak and the closure are currently being assessed and cleaned up.
“At this time we do not know whether it will be operational tomorrow, which could have an impact on the level of surgical services at Carbonear,” Jackie O’Brien, spokesperson for Eastern Health wrote The Compass in an email.
If the decision is made to keep the operating room closed, patients will be advised if they will need to have a scheduled procedure postponed.
O’Brien also confirmed the closure of the operating room will not impact emergency surgeries as the second operating room remains functional at this time.
