Fence railing goes through windshield in St. John's accident

The railing of a fence dividing traffic lanes went through the windshield of a van Friday morning in an accident on Prince Philip Drive in St. John's.

The accident scene is located across from the St. John's Arts and Culture Centre. The railing punctured the upper part of the front windshield and came out through the driver side window.

Members of the St. John's Regional Fire Department and the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary responded to the accident. The Telegram has not confirmed how many vehicles were involved and whether there were any injuries.

Traffic heading west on Prince Philip Drive has been reduced to one lane.

    If it can happen, it will happen. Lucky someone wasn't killed or very seriously maimed. Time to remove that dangerous chain- link fence from such a high traffic area. Boy! Were they lucky!!
