Brandon Clarke is the 2012-13 male athlete of the year for Carbonear Collegiate.

Brandon Clarke of Carbonear earned a distinct honour at the Carbonear Collegiate annual awards night on Dec. 18.

He received the male athlete of the year award for the 2012-13 school year, as well as honours and a French immersion certificate. He has also earned the athlete of the year honour for Level II, as well as a sportsmanship/leadership award for Level III.

As a hockey player with the CeeBees minor hockey association, Brandon is no stranger to recognition. The 18-year-old earned player of the year status and a $500 scholarship last May, and was named the most sportsmanlike player on his midget team.

Brandon is currently living and studying out-of-province, working towards a degree in mechanical engineering at the University of New Brunswick, where he is also playing hockey in a university recreation league. He hasn’t been able to play competitively because of his course load, but still tries to make time for the game he loves.

Brandon will be participating in the Atlantic Engineering Competition in Moncton at the end of this month as a member of a four-man team with UNB.

Brandon is the son of Trevor and Lisa Clarke of Carbonear. He is seen here accepting his athletic award from Eddie Russell, principal at Carbonear Collegiate.
