A staffing crisis in Harbour Grace that was reported this week will not be publicly discussed by town officials, at least for now.

Jennifer Janes (left) and Ashley Janes (right) have left their newly appointed positions with the town of Harbour Grace.

On Thursday, Jan. 23, The Compass confirmed two recently hired senior employees resigned from their positions with no notice.

The day prior, the facilities manager at the S.W. Moores Memorial Stadium, Jennifer (Bourne) Janes, and the new chief administrative officer, Ashley (Rose) Janes, tendered their resignations effective immediately.

Jennifer began her position on Dec. 2, while Ashley had been on the job less than two weeks. Both were contacted, but did not respond to interview requests up to Friday, Jan. 24.

A meeting was held for councillors Thursday night (Jan. 23) to discuss a way forward.

When asked about the meeting, councillor and finance committee chair Kathy Tetford declined comment.

Deputy Mayor Sonia Williams would also not officially comment “yet,” but prior to the meeting, she did confirm the resignations.

Mayor Terry Barnes has officialy stated he would not be making any comment either.

Attempts to contact other councillors since the meeting have been unsuccessful.

Late Wednesday night, the stadium Facebook page — which was monitored and ran by Jennifer Janes — was rendered inactive after Jan. 23.

When news got out about the resignations, questions began surfacing, with plenty of speculation. But it will likely be next week or later before anything is brought to public light, sources say.

It is unclear what town officials plan to do next or when they expect to fill the positions.

The two resignation and council walking out of a meeting with gov over the new stadium (for reasons unknown) go figure. A few too many chiefs and not quite enough soldiers.

Mr. Obserber January 25, 2014 - 05:42 You really think the PC s are going to build a multi-million dollar stadium now in Hr. Grace after the savy voters of Carbonear-Hr. Grace just elected another "piece of work" liberal "Sammy Claus." I know Sammy is "short and stout, but tip me over and pour me out," (jejejeje) all you may, I'd like to see if he can still hold onto the funding for that new facility from the PC government whom the voters of the area just kicked in the teeth... The facilities manager at the S.W. Moores Memorial Stadium left her position without notice.. umm... Why are the political connected rats deserting the ship? Do I smell no new facility? But what do know? Silly me

Just from rumours and "practice gossip" at the stadium, it seems as if this young ladies decision to leave has nothing to do with the chances of not getting a new facility... Anyone who has stepped foot into the S.W. MOORES Memorial Stadium since before Christmas knows exactly what I am talking about.. Council knows very well what is happening, or has happened and what continues to happen at this facility, it is time for them to come forward and tell the public before these young girls get a bad name. "Truth seeker", I have to agree, I can't imagine the demands the council had on her when she arrived... New council, same old tricks! Here we are, a region that should be trying our best to retain our young, educated professionals and all we are doing is pushing them away. Good luck in the future girls, some places just cannot accept change, as good as it may be! To the Town of Harbour Grace, things seemed to be getting better, I guess not, shame on you! Maybe The Compass might want to go to the stadium to interview some patrons, there's a news story for you!

Everything hush hush , in Hr grace , do the stadium manager know something that the people of Hr grace don't know? Yup no rink and too much work at the old one. never heard of the new rink lately , were is the arena committee that was set up , some of the brighter people of the area, I know , we're ever Sammie is not , out of favor I'd say, as for the town manager I think she is a smart lady not that the other isn't , but the list of demands the council had on her , she wasn't sticking around for that, we'll people of the town , stay tuned!

Stadium is gone, as the Town of Harbour, (all councillors) walked out of a meeting with gov officials (not you Sammy Clause) in the past month. Apparently the elected followers agree that Kathy T needs time to put all the ducks in a row. I wonder why the true reason for walking out will be explained?
