Tonight’s meeting should answer some questions, Stone says

The town of Harbour Grace is expected to break its silence on a pair of recent resignations tonight (Jan. 29) at its regular council meeting.

Gord Stone is a councillor with the Town of Harbour Grace.

Speculation has been made by many citizens from the town, as well as neighbouring communities, about why two women hired for management roles would unceremoniously walk away from their positions after only a few weeks on the job.

Very little information has been available since Jan. 22, when the resignations were received from Jennifer Janes — former stadium facilities manager — and Ashley Janes — former Chief Administrative Officer.

Messages left for several councillors have not been returned, as of this morning.

Mayor Terry Barnes has been vague since last week, except he would not comment on the resignations and that a statement would be available soon. He has not returned repeated calls from The Compass this week.

Coun. Gord Stone told The Compass this morning that council had to ensure they got all the facts on the situation before releasing a statement. He explained that tonight’s regular council meeting should alleviate some of the concerns.

“It’s a good starting point,” he said.

The meeting will go ahead at 7 p.m. tonight at the town hall.
