How much heritage could there be in a town that’s only been incorporated since the late 60s?

Possibly more than you think, and Pasadena Coun. Dave Decker hopes to find out.

The town representative wants to start a heritage committee similar to that of Deer Lake, and he hopes to see some volunteers come forward.

During a recent public council meeting, Decker said that as elderly war veterans pass on, so do their memories and knowledge of municipal history.  He wants to see something done to preserve those.

“We’re going to start losing our primary sources (of information) as nature takes its course,” he said. “So let’s try and get a committee together.”

Deer Lake’s heritage committee has been gathering old photographs and historic materials over the last couple of years. Members recently held an event at a local seniors’ residence to some great local reaction.

Pasadena held a heritage event at the local library during the 2012 Come Home festivities, which saw a number of photographs, items and sports memorabilia to the delight of those in attendance.
