Environment Canada is forecasting strengthening winds, snow and rain for the island of Newfoundland throughout the day on Thursday.

This is due to a low-pressure system that is expected to form along the Eastern Seaboard late in the day Wednesday and will track across central Newfoundland Thursday afternoon.

Precipitation will begin as snow in the southwest early Thursday morning and spread through the rest of the island by noon.

Snow is expected to mix with freezing rain before changing over to rain over southeastern portions of the island during the afternoon.
