Man arrested in Field House incident denied bail

Justin Michael Chipman — the man arrested in connection with an incident Tuesday night at the Field House at Memorial University — was denied bail following a bail hearing in provincial court in St. John’s today.

Chipman’s case will be back in court again March 7.

He is facing 14 charges as a result of an incident in which one police officer was injured and another fired a bullet at the suspect as he fled in an SUV.

The 26-year-old is charged with four counts of assaulting a peace officer and four more of assault with a weapon. Police also charged Chipman with two counts of theft under $5,000, one count of theft exceeding $5,000 in relation to a motor vehicle, property damage, dangerous driving and breach of a probation order.
