The meeting will give the general public a chance to ask questions and hear plans for the proposed centre that will be located at the SPLASH centre — formerly St. Paul’s School — on Lady Lake Road in the town.
An addictions centre has been in the planning phases since 2010, and a contract was awarded in 2012 to Homewood Health Care from Guelph, Ontario for $1.7 million to develop the functional program and complete the initial clinical management of the facility. It was slotted to last two-and-a-half years.
The centre will house those 18 years old and up who have problems related to drug or alcohol or dependency or addiction. They will offer specialized treatment for those who need the assistance. It will also provide 24-hour nursing care and physicians.
This centre will be added to the group of some 60 mental health facilities in the province, including a facility for youth in Paradise with complex mental needs that is expected to open later this year.
The formal presentation at the meeting will begin at 7 p.m., and will be followed by a question and answer period.
