Police in Conception Bay North are once again receiving reports of tailgate thefts from pickup trucks.
This past weekend, officers with Trinity Conception RCMP say they received three reports of tailgate thefts from vehicles parked in public areas along Veterans Memorial Highway.
Officers are urging anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious behaviour to contact police (596-5014) or Crime Stoppers (1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
Such incidents are not new in this region, and police are urging vehicle owners to take measures to prevent such thefts, including locking the tailgates.
Like all auto parts, there is a market for tailgates. Replacements can cost several thousand dollars. It's an issue in many jurisdictions across Canada, and police have said newer model trucks are most often the target.
An unlocked tailgate can be removed in a matter of seconds, without tools.
Most tailgates have factory installed locks. A locking easy clamp can also be attached where the tailgate lifts out.
