Investigation ongoing into fatal house fire

The RNC says it is continuing to investigate a fatal house fire that occurred Saturday on McKay Street in St. John’s in which a 56-year-old man died.

A house fire on McKay Street claimed the life of a person who was inside the home at the time of the Saturday afternoon incident.

A woman was also transported to hospital with injuries believed to be non-life threatening.

About 1:30 p.m. Saturday, officers from RNC, along with firefighters from St. John’s Regional Fire Department and paramedics from Eastern Health responded to the blaze.

The residential home sustained extensive damage as a result.

The Canadian Red Cross was also on scene providing assistance.

RNC fire investigators are continuing the investigation into the cause of the fire and the scene continues to be held for further examination.

The deceased has been positively identified. No further personal information will be released at this time.
