The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is warning motorists to slow down and exercise caution on Pitts Memorial Drive, westbound at the Commonweath Avenue overpass because there's a large crater-like pothole in the road.

In the RNC's overnight report, officers responded to 212 calls but "nothing remarkable to report."

The news release goes on to say, "Well, except for the crater, large pothole, on Pitts Memorial Drive, westbound at the Commonwealth overpass.  It caused flat tires for a number of unsuspecting motorists in a short period of time."

The Department of Transportation and Works responded to the scene but police say caution is still urged in the area.

Enjoy your Paddy’s Day weekend.

I am happy to see that only a few tires are blown from potholes on the Avalon. On route 360, the Bay D'Espoir highway we are seriously damaging our vehicles and it has caused some very serious accidents. The Minister responsible and Tracey Perry have made another announcement to "rehabilitate" the highway. Paul Davis came down and made basically the same announcement last year but once again they forgot to call tenders. I hope we have about 4 elections a year. If Tracey Perry keeps one promise out of four, which would be an increase for her, we would have a little decent pavement for our great grandchildren.
